Sikkim
The Yuksom–Dzongri Trek is a mesmerizing adventure into the core of the Sikkim Himalayas. It leads trekkers through dense rhododendron forests, alpine meadows, and ancient monasteries, offering panoramic views of Kabru, Ratong, Kanchenjunga, Koktang, Pandim, and Narsingh peaks. The route also passes the sacred Khecheopalri Lake, believed to stay ever-pristine as birds prevent leaves from touching its waters. This moderate 11-day trek blends raw wilderness, rich culture, and spiritual calm. Each day unravels stunning waterfalls, shimmering lakes, and high ridges, culminating at Dzongri Top — a vantage point that gifts a breathtaking view of Kanchenjunga National Park and the Himalayan giants beyond.
Your Himalayan story begins as you arrive at Bagdogra Airport or New Jalpaiguri Station. A scenic 3-hour drive takes you through winding mountain roads to Kalimpong — a peaceful town draped in orchids and mist. Check into your hotel and unwind with views of the Teesta River snaking through deep valleys. In the evening, stroll through local markets, try Sikkimese momos, and breathe in the cool mountain air. The night brings excitement - tomorrow, your trekking journey truly begins.;
After breakfast, a picturesque drive takes you from Kalimpong to Yuksom, the first capital of Sikkim and the starting point of your trek. The route winds through lush forests, waterfalls, and small Himalayan hamlets. On arrival, check into your guesthouse and meet your trekking team. The evening is free to explore - walk to Dubdi Monastery or simply watch the sunset paint Kanchenjunga in orange hues. The stillness of Yuksom has a charm of its own - calm, spiritual, and quietly preparing you for the trail ahead.;
With the morning sun lighting the valley, your trek begins! The trail passes through dense forests of pine, oak, and magnolia, alive with the songs of Himalayan birds. Wooden bridges cross gurgling streams, and every turn feels like stepping into a postcard. By afternoon, you reach Sachen — a peaceful campsite near a bubbling stream surrounded by greenery. The night sky glitters above, and the sound of nature lulls you to sleep. Your Himalayan adventure has truly started.;
Today’s trail climbs steadily through forested slopes, offering glimpses of the valley below. You’ll pass Bakhim — a small village with fluttering prayer flags and smiling locals. After a brief rest, continue toward Tshoka, a traditional Tibetan settlement perched at 3,050 meters. The scenery shifts from subtropical forest to alpine charm. Wooden huts and monasteries stand against the backdrop of snow peaks. As night falls, the crisp air carries chants from nearby monasteries. You’re higher, colder, and closer to magic.;
A thrilling day awaits! The trail ascends through blooming rhododendron forests and open meadows. The air turns sharper, and the trees thin out, revealing vast snowfields. The climb is steady but immensely rewarding. As you reach Dzongri Camp at 4,020 meters, the panorama opens — peaks like Kanchenjunga, Kabru, and Pandim dominate the skyline. The sun sets behind icy ridges, casting golden light over the land. You rest under a blanket of stars, your spirit soaring as high as the mountains.;
Wake before dawn for a short climb to Dzongri Top. The sunrise here is legendary — the first golden rays touching Kanchenjunga and turning the snowscape to fire. After breakfast, begin your day hike to Laxmi Pokhari, a tranquil glacial lake shimmering in silence. The reflections of the peaks in its waters are nothing short of heavenly. Spend the afternoon exploring or simply breathing in the pure Himalayan stillness. Return to your wooden hut in Dzongri for the night - peaceful, fulfilled, and proud.;
After breakfast, begin your descent through rhododendron forests bursting with color. The crisp air fills with birdsong as you retrace your path to Tshoka. The village feels even warmer now — familiar faces, smoky kitchens, and steaming cups of tea. You share stories with fellow trekkers and laugh about the challenges you conquered. The night feels softer — the hardest parts are behind you, but the memories will stay forever.;
After breakfast, bid farewell to the mountains and drive toward Pelling. The journey is short but scenic, passing monasteries and waterfalls. Once in Pelling, check into your hotel and explore - visit the Pemayangtse Monastery, Skywalk, or just enjoy views of Kanchenjunga. After days of trekking, the comfort of civilization feels sweet.;
Today’s drive takes you to Darjeeling, the “Queen of the Hills.” Winding roads, tea gardens, and crisp air guide you along. Once there, explore the colonial charm — stroll along Mall Road, visit monasteries, or enjoy a quiet sunset from Tiger Hill. The warmth of Darjeeling tea pairs perfectly with mountain nostalgia.;
Your final morning arrives with a soft mist wrapping the hills. After breakfast, you’ll drive back to Bagdogra Airport or NJP for your journey home. The mountains fade in the rearview mirror, but their peace stays with you — in your breath, your smile, and your stories. The Dzongri Trek may end here, but its rhythm will echo in your heart for years to come.;
